My Dear Knanaya Community Members,
I would like to take this moment with wish you all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2012 filled with success and good health.
This time of the year is universally accepted as a time of reflection about the past, to learn from our experiences and plan/hope for a better future. When we reflect on last year as a community, there are so many things that we could be thankful and proudof.(സമ്മതിക്കുന്നു. Our beautiful centenary celebration in Kottayam that was also attended by the Indian President was great. Unlike the last century, today we are a global community with much bigger and wider challenges than ever before. On top of these, unable to gainrecognition of our unique ethnic identity under the hierarchical structure of the Syro Malabar church outside the boundaries of our Arch Diocese of Kottayam presents us with challenges that are new to our community. ഇത്രയും നാള്‍ നിങ്ങള്‍ പണിതു കുളം ആക്കിയത് പോരെ?)We start this new century in North America with more than forty percent of our new generation born outside the jurisdiction of our arch diocese in Kottayam, with English as their primary language, raised in a culturally, spiritually and sociologicallydifferent as well as challenging environment that is understandably foreign to most of us the first generation immigrants. We are in a different time where most of our community members have the smarts to understand and discuss facts(ഇത് ഇപ്പോഴെങ്കിലും മനസ്സിലായാലോ!!! KCCNA's plans and goals this year were centered on addressing these issues so that collectively we could begin the process of formulating a road map. Our efforts resulted in several programs that were directed towards the new generation’s involvement, in partnership with KCYLNA. Knanayayouth fest attended by more than 200 young adults, Knanaya Voluntary Service, upcoming youth summit geared towards teenagers that will be attended by almost 150 youngsters, Job site are all some of the examples of our collective efforts. We cannot appreciateenough the outstanding contributions of several EC/NC/Community members during the course of the year For the first time ever KCCNA appointed an young adult, chosen by his peers in National Council, as a Convention co -chairman to ensure that the needs andinterests of the next generation is addressed in every area of planning including the security of youngsters and their well being. Yes, we are trying something different and we are on our way to change the way the KCCNA conventions are run.
As you know change generally is met with resistance, opposition and obstacles. The greater the change the harder the resistance. Community politics are present in all communities, but in an extended family like ours, at times the politics could be verydiscouraging and hurtful The National Council’s joy and excitement in initially accepting Chicago’s bid to host the convention was met with the hard realities of such politics. However the resolve of our community and its representatives could never be thisstrong Since the decision to change the convention venue, the progress that was made over the last two weeks has been remarkable. Never in the history of KCCNA did we manage to conduct four kickoffs within one week of deciding a convention location with severalGrand Sponsors and over one hundred fifty sponsors. We feel confident that we are on our way to a great convention. Once again, the support and commitment of our community members throughout North America is the force behind the success of our activities includingconventions.
As I personally reflect on the past one year, it was a year filled with lot of excitement, and sense of accomplishment at the same time, it also taught me a lot about the good and bad politics in our community (പിന്നെ തനിക്കു എല്ലാം excitement and accomplishment ആണല്ലോ ചോരകുടിക്കാന്‍ നടക്കുന്ന ചെന്നായ്ക്കു അദ്വാനിക്കാതെ തന്നെ ചോരകിട്ടുക എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞാല്‍ അതൊരു വിജയം തന്നെ ആണല്ലോ).  Though I got an opportunity to thoroughlyenjoy the friendship of so many Knanites across North America (both young and mature), but also experienced the wrath of those who disagreed with me . I learned that my personal space could be violated and my personal and private discussions could be twistedout of context
.  In spite of all the drama created from all these, I can confidently say that I have not allowed my personal views on a particular situation or a person dictate the way the KCCNA business is conducted People holding offices always get countlessnumbers of opinions and suggestions especially when facing difficult problems, such as convention related issues in Chicago or when there is a significant turmoil in a local community or without any say or opinion community members are forced to take huge financialburden during a time when people are losing jobs and youngsters out of college and struggling to find work. At the end it is the decision making authority (EC and NC for our community) who makes ultimate decisions for our community. I can assure my fellow communitymembers that the KCCNA EC and NC that you elected to represent you, did their duties honorably for the community, deliberated all issues with civility and were able to make unanimous decisions almost always on every issue.
വിശദമായ ഇമെയില്‍ ക്ലാസുകള്‍ ഞങ്ങള്‍ കണ്ടതാണ് ) Because every time in making thosedecisions, they held the best interest of the community and community organizations (ആരുടെ താല്പര്യങ്ങള്‍???

KCCNA is entering its 25th year of existence. Next year, in 2012 our community will conduct the 10th KCCNA convention.  No other Malayalee organization in North America has remained as strong as KCCNA and for as long as KCCNA.  The simple reasonfor our existence and survival is the people whom this organization represents, the Knanites.  In spite of all differences in opinions, ideas, agreements and disagreements, we proved to ourselves and to outside world, we are ONE people, joined together by ONE heritage and moving forward as ONE community.  As we celebrate our silver Jubilee of the federation, we should thank all the past leaders of KCCNA for their effort to organize this community and gave a solid foundation on which it flourished over theyears.  No one is perfect, however each and every one contributed his/her own way, when they had an opportunity to serve this community and community organizations. Let’s take a moment to thank all of them in this Christmas season and in this Jubilee year
Our community has faced challenges in the past and it will have new challenges in the future, however at the end it is our resolve as Knanites that should prevail over any one individual or group of individuals We faced challenges from within and outsideour community over the years especially with respect to our ethnic identity, however, we withstood all the pressures and made very strong decisions to not to compromise on our fundamental principles for short term gains.  It is this determination that we showed over centuries kept us as a unique group of people, envied by our neighbors
During this Jubilee year of KCCNA, we really need to examine what makes us Unique and United and what will help us to remain Unique and United in years to come in this adopted land of ours. In the words of Albert Einstein, “Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds” (പാവം  പ്രസിടന്ടു പിന്നെയും തെറ്റിദ്ധരിച്ചു . Our community has a history of withstanding strong headwinds and the current problems are no different, but together, we shall overcome. താങ്കളുടെ ഈവിള്‍ ഗ്രൂപിന്റെ തന്ത്രങ്ങളെ ) Let this Christmas bring us hope and fill us with the spirit of unity to face all adversities and prepare us for a brighter tomorrow.  God Bless the Knanaya Community.( ഈ കാര്യത്തില്‍ പൂര്‍ണ്ണമായും യോജിക്കുന്നു . ) Shiens Akasala
President, KCCNA

  4. I don't think this blog is getting the exposure it deserves in order to achieve the necessary impact. I think sending out these messages to everyones email directly with the link to the blog like poozhikala is doing with american kna should be the right strategy. After all, face fire with fire. By the way, I like what the author has done with this piece. You have a lot of supporters.
